About ICHG

The David Baum International Foundation

The David Baum International Foundation was established in memory of the late Professor David Baum, President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, (who died suddenly and tragically whilst on a sponsored bike ride to raise money to help children in the Balkans).

Aim

The aim of the David Baum International Foundation, which was launched in January 2001, is to raise funds to promote high quality training of paediatricians in the most needy and disadvantaged parts of the world. One of the current projects involves the children's hospital in Pristina, Kosovo and arrangements have been made for three paediatricians from there to come to the UK for attachments in neonatology, respirology and neurology. It is intended that this will be a long-term relationship leading to concrete improvements in child health care.

Proposals

Proposals for funding of specific projects that fall within the remit of the David Baum International Foundation can be submitted to the David Baum Fellow (Officer for International Affairs) at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. These proposals will be considered in detail by the Advisory Group of 12 Trustees who will then recommend the College Council to endorse funding of projects likely to be successful.

Education and training of paediatricians lies at the heart of the purpose of the David Baum International Foundation and it is hoped that members and Fellows of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, who feel strongly about the obligation we, in the wealthy north, have to children (and our colleagues) in less advantaged countries, will contribute to the Foundation as the mechanism through which these obligations can be realised.
