London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Centre for International Child Health (CICH), Institute of Child Health, University College London

The Centre for International Child Health (CICH) is a research and teaching organisation within the Institute of Child Health, University College London. We collaborate with a number of centres of excellence (especially in Africa and Asia) and share results of research widely so that it can contribute to the improvement of the health, nutrition and development of children in poor communities. We also work with a range of international agencies and NGOs promoting the use of evidence-based good practice. We have an exciting MSc and PhD teaching programme and welcome visitors, especially to Source - the collection of more than 20,000 reports and reviews.

Joint RCPCH / VSO Fellowships

Joint RCPCH / VSO Fellowships are available, to be held for one year. This scheme, a joint venture between the RCPCH and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), accredits one-year training placements in developing countries as part of higher specialist training in paediatrics. It is open to SpRs undertaking Type I training programmes who are enrolled on a five-year HST programme and have already completed the first two years of core HST. As an RCPCH/VSO Fellow the SpR may spend their third or fourth year in a developing country as a VSO volunteer. This period may be recognized as part of their CCST programme. Fellows will be supported by an in-country mentor (a local senior paediatrician who will be available on a regular basis for advice and guidance), and an RCPCH mentor (a UK-based paediatrician who will be in regular contact via e-mail). This placement will be subject to appraisal and assessment.
